AlpenCheddar is a unique and unusual blend of traditional German Alpine cheese and a British Farmhouse Cheddar, created by two of the most distinguished artisan cheesemakers – Albert Kraus and Mary Quicke. Together they’ve created something quite special.
AlpenCheddar has a distinct sweet nuttiness, which you get from a good alpine cheese, paired with the acidity of the cheddar which leads to a delicious apricot and tangy finish.
Mary and her family produce the Cheddar curds which are transported and added to the Alpine cheesemaking process. These cheese are pressed into moulds and matured for 3 months in the home village of the cheesemaker, Albert Kraus before being sent back to the Quicke family farm in Devon. A traditional Cheddar cheese would normally be left to mature for anything up to 24 months thus making AlpenCheddar quite a rule breaker.
AlpenCheddar really is a unique and rare cheese combining two distinctive methods of cheese making to deliver a rich and flavoursome cheese. It’s rich, nutty and fruity taste is simply quite sublime.
