Created in a traditional cheesemaking facility in Savoie in time-honoured fashion, Le Saint Mont Des Alpes displays wonderful nutty aromas with a slight tang and irresistible notes of wild Alpine meadows.
Le Saint Mont des Alpes is a hard mountain cheese made from raw unpasteurised cows milk and vegetarian rennet from Tarine or Abondance cattle in the Savoie region of France. It was originally made by a smaller cooperative but in 2013 was purchased by Monts et Terroirs, larger cooperative created in 1954 and now part of an even larger French dairy cooperative that owns the brand Entremont, who’s name the cheese bares
Le Saint Mont des Alpes is a smooth hard cheese that is typical of an Alpine mountain cheese, with sweet hints of nuts and grass. Le Saint Mont des Alpes has won several medals, over many years at various contests, and most recently a gold in 2016 at the World Cheese awards. It’s not the kind of cheese that hits you over the head with flavour and character as its a mild, and mildly sweet, cheese, similar to a Comte or a Gruyere but with a much longer lasting taste.
